Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a selection of our most frequently asked questions. If your question isn't answered on this page please feel free to contact us.

Q
What is window tinting? Is it a film or a liquid?
A
The film is a coated polyester sheet that is applied to existing glass. Solar control films use a very fine metal coating which filters the suns radiation including over 98% of the Ultraviolet light.

Q
Will it make the room darker?
A
This depends on the film chosen. Most safety films are absolutely clear but still provide a 98% plus Ultra Violet filter. The Solar control films may affect light levels but as your eyes automatically adjust to different light levels, the degree is generally only 5 - 10%. The term for the eyes adjusting is visual acuity and the actual percentage is noted on each sample.
Q
Does it go on the inside or outside?
A
Inside in the majority of situations
Q
How long will it last?
A
Most of the films have 10 year Manufacturers warranties and several have Lifetime warranties. The effective life of window film will vary by the type of film, type of glass, window construction, compass orientation of glass, and which part of the world the window is located. There have been documented cases of film lasting up to 22 years or more in some instances.
Q
How does it stick on?
A
A clear adhesive is applied to the film during manufacture this is covered by a protective backing sheet. The only chemical used in the installation is a mild detergent.
Q
Will it bubble, peel, or change colour?
A
No, so long as a quality film is used and installed to the standards the manufacturers specify. We have been Accredited Dealers of Bekaert Specialty Films since 2000, and provide Manufacturers warranties.
Q
How do you clean it?
A
The silicon hardcoat finish has virtually eliminated the need for cleaning and risk of scratching. A soft clean cloth with a non abrasive cleaning solution will remove marks. Dry off with a clean dry soft cloth.
Q
Will Window Film stop my furnishings from fading?
A
Nothing completely stops fading. Solar films are designed to help reduce the major causes of fading (ultra violet light, visible light, and solar heat), thus prolonging the life of your furnishings, perhaps as much as two to five times. Below is a chart that shows those factors and the percentages linked to the damaging rays. UV the largest cause of fading (40%)

Q Will window film kill my house plants?
A In most cases if a plant is already receiving adequate light, the use of window film will not harm it.New growth or flowering may be retarded, and, for a few days, a plant may go into a state of shock while it adjusts to the light change. If a particular plant normally wilts by the end of a sunny day, it will actually thrive better with film installed. Although there are some obvious guidelines in determining what, if any, effect window film will have on a plant ( for instance, dark green plants need less light than lighter coloured ones ), there is one simple test which can be done prior to film installation: merely move the plant to an area with less sunlight for a few days. In addition, most nurseries can advise on particular plant sunlight needs.
Q
Will Window tint ruin my view?
A
Unlike many preconceived notions, most residential window film is very lightly tinted. This is because it is not the color or darkness of the film that offers you most of your benefits, but rather the films properties (makeup) that perform most of the work. In fact, having window film installed will usually enhance your view.
